Welcome to Noob Wars

Allow me to introduce myself. My blizzard handle is Krakpot, and I'm a VERY recent convert to the world of RTS and Starcraft, specifically. I played some Command and Conquer and the original Starcraft when they came out, but took an almost two decade hiatus. I've only been playing Starcraft 2 for two months.

While I'm new to playing the game, I've actually been watching the SC2 E-sports scene for several years, and many of the casters of big tournaments are familiar. In picking up the game, I find there's a lot of information out there for new players, probably more than there was 5 years ago, thanks to Twitch streamers. But while there's a lot of information, there's less written from the point of the view of the learner, the beginner.

So why write this? What I'm committed to is growing the game. Blizzard recently signed an agreement to essentially outsource the profession, competetive tour for 3 years, and this is excellent news. But equally, there needs to be a movement from the ground up, bringing in new players to what is essentiallyi a free game to play. Of course, the free part is the gateway drug, and you can spend money on missions and enhancement packs, but the free part is key. Maynarde said in a post-2019 Blizzcon rant (check it out here) that it's up to the community to keep Starcraft strong. This blog is my contribution to that.
